Building Healthier Habits: How to Plan a Detox Diet

How to Plan a Detox Diet

With the holiday season coming to an end, most of us are just figuring out how much heavy food we’ve eaten over the course of a few weeks. This is why the start of the year is a great time to take a clean break and detox your organism. With a healthier diet, you’ll not only lose weight, but you’ll also feel better about yourself – which is everything when it comes to self-confidence. Healthy food is great for your line, your skin, and slows down the aging process considerably when compared to eating just about anything. Here, we’ll offer you some tips how to improve your diet and clean up your organism in 7 days.

Ditch the Complicated Meals

Contrary to popular belief, delicious and healthy meals don’t have to contain a whole range of ingredients. In fact, the simpler you keep your meals the better chances you’ll have at eating healthy. As long as you’re making sure that your meals have a source of whole grains, healthy fat, and lean protein – you’ll be alright. For example, spinach with chicken breasts is a simple meal that can satisfy your lunch needs and it’s extremely healthy.  Same goes for veggies and fish, as long as it’s not deep fried. A poached egg with cheese and mushrooms in the morning is a breakfast that’ll keep you going for a long time, while it’s very simple to make.

Slow Down When Eating

This is one of the biggest mistakes many people tend to make. It doesn’t matter how healthy your food is if you’re eating it at a rapid pace. Yes, we’re living in a society where every minute counts, but you shouldn’t try to steal those couple of minutes from your meals. By eating slower, you’ll not only lose weight (as your organism will recognize in time that you’ve had enough), but you’ll also get to enjoy your food. Enjoy every bite and think about the flavors that you’re sensing. Put down your fork and knife in between the bites, in the beginning, just to get used to a slower pace.

Create a Schedule and Respect It

One of the best ways to have a healthier diet is to teach you to have regular meals. This means no eating in between meals and no skipping meals either. Set an exact time for breakfast and do the same thing for your lunch and dinner. Make it a rule to never skip or delay a meal, unless in extreme situations. Strict meal schedule will help you regulate your digestive system, but also help with blood sugar and insulin levels. This is even more important if you have a family since you’ll get to spend more time with them and appreciate every meal together.

Eat Whole Foods

Rather than eating processed ingredients, you should focus on eating whole foods. That means making your own oats and putting blueberries in it, rather than buying the whole mixed package in the shop. When choosing what you’re going to buy, you should only opt for brands that have ingredients that you can easily recognize and you can use them to make a meal from scratch in your kitchen. Of course, an exception would be if you’re a vegan and you want to enrich your diet with protein, in which case you can implement premium vegan protein in your diet. If a food you’re considering to buy has any ingredients that you don’t recognize, skip them and read about the ingredient later in order to decide if they’re good for you or not.

Drink a Lot of Water

You may not be aware of this, but water is absolutely essential to any detox diet. In fact, some extreme detox diets even go so far to propagate only drinking water for a week or so, without any food whatsoever. While this probably may not be good for you, the fact remains that drinking a lot of water will not only lower your appetite, but it will also help you cleanse your organism of all the bad things you’ve eaten. Make it your mission to drink at least half a gallon of water per day and you’ll be well on your way towards a healthier diet.

Bottom Line

There are a lot of detox diets out there that you can use to your advantage. However, before committing to any extreme detox diets, you may want to have a conversation with your nutritionist.  Your best bet is to focus on eating whole foods that are healthy and that contain all that your organism needs. As long as you stay committed to your diet, you’ll lose weight and get to clean your organism before you even know it.
